The founder of the Church of Isa Mayisa, Christopher Besweri Kaswabuli has decried moral degeneration and wickedness in the society attributing it to commercialization of religion.

Kaswabuli said despite the mushrooming number churches in the country many wicked deeds are happening because religious leaders are not ably playing their duties of spiritually shaping and guiding their flocks.

"Day by day new churches are coming up not with the intention of leading people according to principles set by Masiya but simply to get quick money from the believers," Kaswabuli said.

The 80-year old preacher who has been at it for fifty years said because of the desire to amass wealth, churches which claim to serve one God had resorted to fighting each other rather than concentrating on preaching the word of God.

Kwasabuli who was officiating at the opening of Bethlehem Guest House along Jinja Road in Busia town after holding a week-long conference in the district said evil acts like child sacrifice, prostitution, drug abuse and murder have characterized the country because people are not well taught and guided by the spiritual leaders.

He appealed to the Masiya followers in particular and Ugandans in general to heed the government's call of working hard to fight poverty in their households and also educate their children saying this was a generation of educated people.

He appealed to Ugandans to embrace Operation Wealth Creation and other development programmes rather than wasting time criticizing President Yoweri Museveni whom he said had selflessly served the country.
