The neighbours noticed the fire at 7:00am on Wednesday as the parents, Jacqueline Namutosi and Richard Mbaziira had already left.

Fear gripped residents of Seeta in Ntinda zone in Mukono Municipality when fire gutted a house and burnt three of the children who were inside as their parents had gone to work. The children were aged between two and four years.

The neighbours noticed the fire at 7:00am on Wednesday as the parents, Jacqueline Namutosi and Richard Mbaziira had already left.

Police told New Vision that two of the children who were twin brothers were burnt to death as their elder brother only identified as Kizza was saved by the neighbours.

The officer in charge of crime in Mukono Police Division, Henry Ayebare said that Kizza was rushed to Nsambya hospital in critical condition.

New Vision learnt that Kizza was later transfered from Nsambya to Kiruddu hospital into the emergency care unit.

Ayebare said by press time that the actual cause of the fire had not been identified. It is said that the mother of the children who owns a kiosk at Kigunga village had gone to Mukono market to buy some food stuffs for sale.

Kasim Ssebyanzi who is Mbaziira's neighbour said he was the first to notice the fire as he was coming from the shop to buy airtime.

"I first saw the smoke coming out of the house, when I came nearer I noticed fire inside. I made the alarm which attracted more neighbours and we kicked the door to open. It was at this point that we managed to save one of the kids who was at the door sketching for the exit in vain. He was already burnt but he had not yet died," Ssebyanzi narrated.

He added that they struggled to put out the fire before it spread to another neighbour in the next room on the same rentals.

Vincent Bisangisa also a neighbour suspected the cause of the fire to have been a candle saying he had earlier warned these parents from leaving it on during night.

The fire was said to have started from the chairs and later spread all over the house.

Ayebare also cautioned the residents to stop putting up structures in the road reserve saying they hinder the emergency vehicles like  the fire brigade.
