Police officers detained for aiding escape of suspect

The suspect was arrested in connection with the theft of local musician Geoffrey Lutaaya’s car

Police in Mpigi is holding two of their own for allegedly aiding the escape of a suspect from Police custody.

Corporal Fred Ekrapa and Sergeant Rose Nampiima all attached to Mpigi Central Police station were arrested and held at Mpigi Police Station to help Police with its investigations into the escape of the suspect Rtd. Capt. James Lukwago who was attached to Bombo Army Barracks.

According to Philip Mukasa, the Katonga Regional Police publicist, Capt. James Lukwago, 60, was arrested in connection with the theft of local musician Geoffrey Lutaaya's car which was stolen from him at gun point when he was coming from Gomba district.

The robbery happened at a place called Kalamba Inn in Butambala district in June when armed robbers attacked the Nu Eagles boss who was traveling along with his wife Irene Namatovu in a Toyota Prado number UAY 544Q.

These robbers also made away with money worth sh2m gate collections from a show they were coming from, mobile phones and other things that were found in the car. The musicians were also left undressed by the robbers.

Police managed to recover the car and the mobile phones and arrests were made including Capt. Lukwago who allegedly gave out his gun that was eventually used in the robbery, Abudallah Ayebare, Joseph Tabule, Julius Tukamuleeba and Jamil Besigye.
