Peninah Kabenge the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) President is convinced that now is the right time to clear her in-tray of the pending activities and take university sports to another level.
"There are a lot of incomplete programs lined up and I am thankful that they have entrusted me with another term and I think this is the right time to accomplish all that we had started," she said.
Kabenge who has served the association since 2003 made the remarks as she gave her first speech after retaining the president's seat unopposed at the elective assembly held on Friday at their office in Mengo.
Among the major events, Uganda will be hosting the World University Netball Championship in 2018 and according to Kabenge they also have plans to field a team for the first time at the 2017 World Winter University Games in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
"We were offered a netball court floor following our performance in Miami but with a condition that there must be a constructed indoor structure so we are in talks with the various universities heads to see who can take up this project in this remaining time," Kabenge stated.
She later thanked Ndejje University's vice chancellor Prof. Eriabu Lugujjo with an appreciation award for his tremendous contribution towards university sports. Ndejje was the highest financer of the 2015/16 season with a total of sh156m.
In the other positions, Vincent Kisenyi from UCU beat Busoga University's Job Moigombya with 42 to 18 votes to retain the vice president's position for another term.
Nkumba's Patrick Sebuliba also retained his office as AUUS general secretary after beating Hilary Kimbugwe from MUBS with 44 to 22 votes.
Ndejje University's Paul Mark Kayongo and Florence Nakamya also retained the treasurer and assistant general secretary's seats respectively.
Over 80 delegates from 26 universities attended the assembly.
