Soroti raises sh5m for Rotary Cancer Run

The Rotarians in Soroti partnered with Etop Newspaper and Etop Radio

Hundreds of people on Sunday morning in Soroti town took part in the Rotary Cancer Run aimed at raising funds for buying a cancer machine.

Both the young and the old turned up and they were flagged of at 8:30 am by the Soroti LC5 chairman George Michael Egunyu.

"We were able to raise over sh5m that we shall deliver to the main organizing committee in Kampala," said Dr. Joel Okalany the secretary general of Soroti Central Rotary Club.

The Rotarians in Soroti partnered with Etop Newspaper and Etop Radio to mobilize people to take part in the run that turned out to be successful.

"I must hail your efforts in organizing this event for a noble cause. We need to continue with the spirit," said Egunyu.

Corporate companies, business tycoons in Teso and school children participated. Robert Etiang emerged number one, Emmanuel Osuje came second and Alex Ocoma became third.

"As a victim of cancer that caused me lose my breast, I decided to participate in the run because cancer is a dangerous disease that does not leave you without causing you to lose one of your body parts," said Florence Akello a survivor.

Akello called on women to check for cancer saying she beat the disease because medics detected it early but many who discover it late end up dying.
