Chenga Challenge Championship kicks off in Moroto

Karamoja will host this year's finals in Moroto town.

Football fans will have a chance to watch future stars in the making as the City Tyres U-14 Chenga Challenge Championship gets under way today in Moroto region.

The Friday event will be the ninth consecutive regional championship.

Earlier Kampala, Mukono, Kabale, Mbale, Iganga, Arua, Lira and Fort Portal had conducted their regional championships six weeks ago.

Karamoja will have the opportunity to host this year's finals in Moroto town on September 9-10. The national under-14 football championship is organized by Friends of Football (FOF).

Central region are the defending champions, having won the 2014 edition. This year's campaign has teams from 11 regions of Uganda taking part.

Since its inception in 1998, the City Tyres Chenga Challenge has been breeding ground for national team players like goalkeeper Denis Onyango, striker Farouk Miya and Mike Mutyaba.
