KCCA FC began its title defence on the right note defeating JMC Hippos 2-1 at the Phillip Omondi Stadium as the Azam Uganda Premier League got underway.

Last season's MVP Joseph Ochaya continued where he stopped last season scoring the opening goal before Vianney Sekajugo equalized for JMC.

New signing Geoffrey Sserunkuma capped off a memorable debut scoring the defending champions' winner in the 69th minute.

Elsewhere, Herman Wasswa scored a double as Express defeated Lweza 2-1 at Wankulukuku while Karim Ndugwa notched a consolation for Lweza.

At Nakivubo, Vipers drew 1-1 Bright Stars. Fred Segujja had put Bright Stars ahead with a 37th strike before new signing Ibrahim Kayiwa equalized for Vipers.

In other games, Police v Villa, Onduparaka v Soana,  Kirinya v URA FC, BUL FC v Proline FC and Saints FC v Sadolin Paints all ended in goalless draws.
