Men 1500m semi-final

Ronald Musagala believes that there is a big hurdle that awaits him when he takes on some of the top contenders in the Olympic Games men's 1500m event.

Uganda's only representative in the middle distance race wants to go a step better than his Beijing World Championships debut, where he finished  10th in heat two and failed to advance to the semi-finals.

Though he understands that the hurdle is tight, as he is up against nine runners with better season and personal best times over the distance, Musagala believes that his fighting spirit will see him finish among the top six that will advance directly to the semi-finals, or be at least in the fastest six times that will get a second opportunity to advance.

"I want to do better but it starts from the first race, if you don't advance, then you cannot improve on the performance," said Musagala as he prepared for the first round of the 1500m event.

Musagala hit the international scene by advancing through the first round of the 800m event, though he failed to go past the semi-final stage where he finished fifth in heat three.

"I will take each day as it comes," he said.
