UPDF officer arrested over theft of singer Lutaaya's car

The suspects were picked as they planned another robbery along Masaka Road

A senior Uganda People Defense Forces (UPDF) soldier is among five suspects arrested by Police over the theft of a local musician's car.

The car with registration number UAY 544Q, was stolen from Geoffrey Lutaaya and his wife Irene Namatovu at gun point in Butambala and later recovered in a motor garage in Iganga district, by Police's Flying Squad Unit operatives.

The Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Emilan Kayima identified the suspects as James Lukwago, a UPDF captain attached to Kyankwanzi, Azizi Ayebare a resident of Lyantonde, Julius Kamuleba and Jamil Besigye both residents of  Mbarara and Joseph Tabule from  Jinja.

Since the recovery of Lutaaya's car, Kayima said the flying squad operatives continued the crackdown on the suspects behind the robbery.

The Flying Squad commandant Herbert Muhangi said the suspects were picked as they planned another robbery along Masaka Road. 

By press time, the suspects were undergoing interrogation at Central Police Station in Kampala.
