Kabale nuns clash with bishop

The four former Kabale diocese nuns that had sued the bishop of Kabale diocese Rt. Rev. Fr. Callistus Rubaramira and five leaders of the association Daughters of Our Lady Fatima after the diocesan council denied them a renewal of their vows have withdrawn the case.

In 2015, Sr.Judith Twinobusingye, Sister Lucia Kehoda, Sister Justine Naturinda and Sister Lucia Musimenta were denied an opportunity by the Kabale diocesan council to renew their vows under accusations of disobeying their superiors. The four nuns had allegedly attended functions at their relatives' places despite orders from their superiors not to do so without permission.

According to a letter dated 12th May, 2014 issued by Sr. Mary Mukanyangezi the commissioner of Daughters of Our Lady Fatima, the diocesan council had ruled that disobedience to the lawful superiors indicated that they were defying the expectations of the Catholic Church thus halted the renewal of their vows ordering them to leave the association.

They were also accompanied by prayers and a Shs800, 000 token to assist them start a new life. Mukanyangezi revealed that the nuns had been denied the renewal of their contracts due to their absence from the religious house on April 22 and April 25, 2014.

However, in their consent the nuns and the five Kabale diocesan leaders led by the bishop of Kabale diocese Rt.Rev. Fr. Callistus Rubaramira, Sr. Mary Arinaitwe, Sr Schola Kyobutungi, Sr. Odila Tindimubona and Sr. Solome Beinomugisha agreed to withdraw the suit and not to undertake any further legal proceedings. "The parties have decided not to take any legal proceedings on the matter or anything related to the dispute .

It was signed by all the parties involved in the case that is the plaintiffs that are Sister Judith Twinobusingye, Sister Lucia Kehoda, Sister Justine Naturinda and Sister Lucia Musimenta and the defendants before the Kabale high court judge justice Moses Kawuma Kazibwe as well as their lawyers Severino Twinobusingye of M/s Twinobusingye Severino and company advocates while the defendant were represented by Jude Byamukama of M/s BNB advocates on the 28th July 2016.
