Boxing: COPAB Coach vow to give Lukanga a run

COBAP Boxing Club coach Ronald Kalyango vowed to give Lukanga Boxing Club a run for their money after seeing his side taking the lead as the national boxing league got underway over the weekend.

The Namungoona-based Community based club outclassed their counterparts from the former boxing capital-Naguru based East Coast-shooting into the lead with 17 points at Lugogo Saturday.

Kibuli based Police followed with 9 points ahead of Katwe who tied at 5 points together with East Coast.

"I am happy that we have made a good start. We expected to build on these results going forward because we are prepared to take the title," said Kalyango.

"The competition is bound to be high but we are prepared to take on the best boxers including Lukanga," added the youthful tactician.

COBAP who boast of many budding boxers, dominated both in the youth and elite category.  Lightwelter Wasswa Lubega and middleweight George Serembe stood out in the junior category after stopping Geoffrey Vubuya Farouk Amerun (East Coast) respectively.

Light Flyweight Ronald Gita, feather David Kato handed COBAP an edge after punching their way to victory Herbert Kalungi (East Coast) and Sulaiman Shaban (East Coast).

The league that is supported by National Council of Sports is meant to nurture local talent. The event has drawn 10 clubs including Lukanga, KCCA, UPDF, Zebra, KBC and Kavuma.
