The International Community of Banyakigezi (ICOB) living in the diaspora will on July 23, convene in London, to elect the organisation's new president.

The elections will be held at the Annual General Meeting during the Annual ICOB Convention.

Despite her name missing out on the final nomination list for the candidates vying for the presidency, Ruth Ndyabahika, the outgoing president, has expressed interest in retaining her seat.

According to the information on the ICOB website, Dr. Muniini K Mulera had been listed as the only candidate for the position.

However speaking to New Vision during the ICOB dinner in Kampala, Ndyabahika questioned the final list of the nominees saying her name had been edited out.

"I'm very confused and upset, I don't know how my name missed out yet I wrote expressing my interest to stand again, it is something that I have brought to the attention of the ICOB board, and I pray it is sorted out before the elections," Ndyabahika said.

She asked the board to interest itself in the matter, and investigate how her name missed out on the final list for the nominees.

When contacted, Dr. Mulera declined to comment on the matter.

"I cannot comment on the nomination process of another person. That is a board matter. I'm only a candidate for the president of ICOB," he said.

Edmond Safali, the deputy ICOB secretary general, who handled the nomination process, confirmed receiving Ndyabahika's nomination via email, but also wondered why her name didn't appear on the final list uploaded on ICOB's website.

According to the website, only three people had their names listed as candidates for different posts for leadership at ICOB.

They include; Dr. Mulera, Lilliane K. Rumanyika as secretary general and Denis Aguma as board member ICOB.

Ndyabahika vowed to stand against Mulera saying; "I'm hundred percent going to stand, no matter my name was not put on the nomination list".

If re-elected Ndyabahika has promised to promote education in Kigezi sub-region through the Kigezi Education Fund, which is the main goal for ICOB.

On his part, Dr. Mulera who was instruments in starting up ICOB, pledged to use his experience and leadership skills to lobby support for the organization's mission and programs.

He also vowed to keep partisan politics out of ICOB for the good of the organization and development of Kigezi.

"I will strictly adhere to the bylaws of ICOB and implement the decisions of the board of directors of ICOB. I will insist and ensure that ICOB remains completely free from partisan politics," he committed.

He promised to ensure that ICOB partners with the government of Uganda and the district governments in Kigezi to continue to uplift the social, cultural and economic health of Banyakigezi.
