KAMPALA - Sheikh Obedi  Kamulegeya, the chief of sheikhs in the Kibuli sect, has praised Wakiso district chairman Matia Lwanga Bwanika for bringing unity between Muslims and Christians in the district.

Speaking at a function of breaking the fast at the district headquarters, Kamulegeya said Bwanika is a good example in the struggle for unity within the people of Uganda of different faiths.

"I have known Bwanika for some good years, he participates in so many Muslim activities. He is a good example to others who might be having issues with the Muslim faith," he said.

Kamulegeya also urged Muslims to pray seriously during the last days of Ramadan so that Allah can save the country from wrongdoers.

Speaking to the fasters, Bwanika said his main aim was to ensure all religions work together for development in the district.

"As a Catholic, I strongly believe in unity for all.

"I wouldn't have done much for development without the support of other religions in the district, so I really appreciate this kind of relationship," he said.

Bwanika said the district will continue organizing a breaking-fast day every year when he is still the district chairman.

Speaking at the same function, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago also praised Bwanika for his effort to ensure peace and unity within the district politicians at all political levels.

The ceremony ended with a dinner for the fasters in the district's boardroom.
