Games are becoming more exciting and tighter as the half way mark approaches in the National Basketball League.

And teams are getting better which should be good news to the fans who are looking forward to an even a better second round, and a delightful play-offs thereafter.

Friday action at the YMCA provided a dose of what lies ahead as the KCCA Leopards battled their longtime rivals A-1 Challenge in the ladies game.

The UCU Canons versus Power encounter was no different providing moments that were worth the fans' investment at the gate.

Against Power, the UCU Canons showed their fighting spirit once again rallying to beat a rather complacent Power side who is now 7-2.

Team Captain Joseph Ikong continues to lead by example and against the Canons scored 14 points with Mike Makiadi adding a double-double (16pts+13 rebounds) for Power who up to now must still be wondering how they lost that particular game.

Power led the first quarter 19-9 and the second 39-23 with UCU failing to find their rhythm let alone scoring.

Until five minutes into the third quarter it was a one-side affair with Power almost turning it into a training session until UCU  woke from their slumber and forced Power into errors, and costly turnovers which they capitalized on to close and over 20 point chess which ended in the last quarter with 5 minutes left.

With the game tied at 50-50 with 5 minutes left Yahaya Kalyesubula (16pts) took matters in his hands nailing crucial three pointers that stunned Power.

Stephen Wundi added 11 points from the bench for the Mukono side who also had Brian Namake with 10 points.

Despite winning their 8th game, the KCCA Leopards were once again stretched by a hard fighting A-1 Challenge side who should blame themselves for playing a shake game that allowed their opponents score 22 points from their turn-overs.

Martha Soigi, Flavia Oketcho and Rebecca Akullo combined 32 points were enough to give them the win despite a better show from A-1 ‘s Elizabeth Bazira, Vickie Ondiso (14pts) and Ruth Meeme (13pts).
