A primary school teacher in Mayuge district lost all her property including her academic documents in fire that gutted her house.

The incident took place on Thursday evening at around 5:30PM when Jamawa Sabano, a teacher at Baliita primary school in Mpungwe Sub County in Mayuge district  was away with her two children.

"All my academic documents, property and retail shop have been burnt to ashes," said Sabano as she sobbed.

She had a retail shop which she used to operate in the evening after teaching.

"We don't know what caused the fire because power was off and there was no one cooking in the house," said Amina Mutesi, one of her  neighbours.

The fire was put out by residents who blamed the police in Mayuge district for lack of fire extinguishing equipment.

Abdul Nasser Mulimira, the officer in charge of criminal investigations in Mayuge police station said that the cause of fire is not yet known. He added that investigations are on-going.
