Police taekwondo team in SA for African Championship

KAMPALA - Moments before flying out to South Africa for the Africa Open Taekwondo Championship, the Police taekwondo team was urged to be disciplined and work hard to lift the Ugandan flag.

"You are going to the competition not as Police, but as Team Uganda, and so I urge you to be more disciplined, work hard and win medals for Uganda," David Katende told the group.

Katende, who is National Council of Sports (NCS) assistant secretary, was flagging off the team at the NCS offices at Lugogo Thursday eveving.

The sporting event kicks off on Saturday in Johannesburg and will end on June 28.

It has attracted eight countries: Madagascar, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Egypt, Morocco, Uganda and hosts South Africa.

The assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Serowen urged the team to maintain unity and focus on winning more medals and be able to qualify for the World Championship in September next year in Seoul, South Korea.

The team features eight athletes coached by Master Pak Song Su.
