UPC left out in shadow cabinet

Former NRM legislator Wilfred Niwagaba has been appointed the opposition shadow attorney general

The Uganda People's Congress has been left out in the opposition shadow cabinet which the Leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza appointed on Tuesday. 

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party spokesman Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said they could not allow UPC to serve both in the NRM government and in the opposition government. 

UPC president Jimmy Akena's wife Betty Amongi was appointed by President Yoweri Museveni as minister lands, housing and urban development. 

Former NRM legislator Wilfred Niwagaba who is now an independent for Ndorwa East MP has been appointed shadow attorney general while Busiro East MP Medard Ssegona has retained his portfolio as minister of justice and constitutional affairs. 

Soroti woman MP Angelina Osege is the chairperson of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which has the mandate to hold government ministries and agencies accountable for the public funds allocated to them.

Osege will be deputized by Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga.

Various MPs including Abdu Katuntu, Reagan Okumu, Kaps Fungaroo, Elijah Okupa, and Osege had expressed interest to be appointed chairperson of PAC.

Chairpersons of other oversight committees were also appointed with Abdu Katuntu as chairman for the committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE), Reagan Okumu as chairman for Local Government Accounts Committee and Kaps Fungaroo as the chairman for the Government Assurance Committee. 

Kilak North MP Anthony Akol will serve as shadow minister for finance, Butambala MP Muwanga Kivumbi as minister for internal affairs, Kyadondo East MP Paul Kantinti as minister for information and Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze will act as minister for local government.
