KATAKWI - A man who had gone to pick his wife from his in-law's home in Katakwi district has collapsed and died.

Charles Oberu, who resides in Oongora village, went to get back his wife from his brother-in-law's residence where she had run to after a family dispute last week.

But on reaching there, her brother insisted that they leave the following morning since it was already dark and unsafe for them to return home.

He was reportedly told that the area is not secure after dark because of the presence of Karamojong warriors still making their way into the district.

LC3 chairperson of Ngariam, John Francis Otude was told that despite the warnings, Obure insisted on returning home - with his wife - at that time (around 8pm).

And when the in-laws reportedly refused to let his wife (Immaculate Imalingat) to go, Obure threatened to end his life. He then went about 30 meters away from the home and returned, only to collapse and breathe his last.

"He returned and sat down after refusing to sit on the chair that he was offered. Shortly after, they realized that he was dead, with white foam oozing from his mouth," said Otude.

Meanwhile, after news of Oberu's death spread, his relatives reportedly set out to revenge his death but police intervened. It was not clear how his family had planned to do avenge.

"The situation is under control," Katakwi DPC Katakwi, Siriba Bashir told New Vision. He said Oberu might have committed suicide by taking poison.

Investigations are under way to establish the cause of his death.

Oberu's relatives were compensated with two head of cattle and sh100,000 for burial expenses. His body was transferred to his ancestral home in Magoro sub-county for burial.
