Trial of suspects in murder of Muslim clerics set for June

They were arrested last year for the murder of three top Muslim clerics

The trial of nine suspects in the murder of Muslim clerics will kick off on Junee 20th and a coram of three justices is to handle the case.

The judiciary's communication officer Solomon Muyita said that the suspects who are also facing charges of terrorism, will be tried at the High Court Criminal division and will appear before Justice Percy Tuhaise, Jane Kiggundu and Ezekiel Muhanguzi.

The suspects are Sheikh Muhammad Yunus Kamoga the leader of the Tabliq sect, Sheikh Siraje Kawooya, Abdulsalaam Sekayanja, Abdul Hamid Mubiru Sematimba, Rashid Jjingo, Twaha Sekitto, Yusuf Kakande, Sheikh Murta Mudde Bukenya (brother of Kamoga) and Sheikh Fahad Kalungi.

They were arrested last year and charged in connection to the murder of three top Muslim clerics in the country.

These include the gruesome murder of Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga at Bwebajja along Entebbe Road, Sheikh Abdulkadir Muwaya in Mayuge District and Sheikh Dr. Haruna Jjemba of the Tabliq sect.

They were charged by the Nakawa magistrates' court with murder, terrorism and crimes against humanity.
