Nakiwala Kiyingi to take over reigns at Express FC

Jun 07, 2016

The state of Express FC has continued to raise concern among the local football fraternity

No doubt newly appointed Minister of State for Youth and Children, Nakiwala Kiyingi was born to lead.

Just a day after President Yoweri  Museveni appointed her to his new cabinet, Express FC president Vicent Bbaale Mugera has appointed her to take over as club chairman according to sources.

The former Kampala Woman MP aspirant takes over from Francis Ntalazi who has been running the show at Wankulukuku for the past three years.

When contacted, Kiyingi accepted that there was some development to that effect but referred New Vision Sport to an official statement from the club president.

"There are some developments, yes, but right now I cannot say much now. There will be a statement to be released by the president," Kiyingi, also a former minister of tourism and antiquities in the Buganda government said.

Ntalazi, who has already expressed desire to be relieved of the responsibility, was also non-committal but intimated that indeed there would soon be changes at the helm of the club.

"Yes we expect some changes but I cannot confirm to what extent they will be," he stated. "Just give it a little more time."

If true, Nakiwala Kiyingi will take over a cash-strapped side that managed to finish a commendable third in the just concluded Azam Uganda Premier League.

One of her (and her team's) first tasks will be to prevent a player exodus as better facilitated sides swoop for want-away stars.

Kiyingi of late had picked interest in the club and started even watching their league games.

In one of the stakeholders meetings for the club, she offered to mobilise more support from Express leaning politicians and businessmen.

The state of Express FC, one of the historical football clubs in the country, has continued to raise concern among the local football fraternity.

Leading the way was FUFA who called all stakeholders to a round table to find solutions.

Another committee, headed by former club chairman Kavuma Kabenge, was set up to mobilise funds. Results from both are yet to be made public.
