Rev Fr Arinaitwe said that some Ugandans were not content

The executive secretary of the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) Rev Fr Sylvester Arinaitwe wants parliament to continue with the process of electoral reforms to cement democracy.

During the State of the Nation address, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said that there is no need for electoral reforms because the country is democratic compared to the representation of people in Parliament.

Rev Fr Arinaitwe said that some Ugandans were not content with the reforms which compromise democracy citing the example of the composition of the Electoral Commission (EC).

"Before elections as UJCC we asked for electoral reforms mostly on the composition of the EC and how they come into office. An amendment can still be made in the constitution to say that the process of getting commissioners into the EC should be open" Arinaitwe said.
