9 regional Speakers here for State-of- the Nation Address

Parliament Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga, on Monday evening hosted the Speakers to a dinner.

At least 9 Speakers from East African member States will grace this year's State-of- the Nation Address.

The function will be held this afternoon at the Kampala Serena Hotel International Conference Centre.

They include: Justine Muturi (National Assembly of Kenya), Ekwe Ethuro (Senate/Kenya), Job Ndugai (Tanzania), Pascal Nyabenda (Burundi), Reverien Ndikuriyo (Senate/Burundi), Mukabalisa Donatille (Chamber of Deputies/Rwanda and Bernard Makuza (Senate/Rwanda).

Others are Magok Rundial (South Sudan), Mohamed Osman Shekh Jawari (Somalia) and Dan Kidega (EALA).

The Constitutional of Uganda under Article 101 (1) requires the President to deliver State-of- the Nation Address. The address happens at the annual opening of Parliament, it focuses on the current political and socio-economic state of the nation.

The article requires the President at the beginning of each session of Parliament; deliver to Parliament an address on the State-of-the Nation. The President may, also, in consultation with the Speaker, address Parliament from time to time, on any matter of national importance.
