FDC denies split in the party

Ibrahim Semujju Nganda said there is no division in the party.

Opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has refuted reports of a split in the party.

This follows the appointment of the Leader of Opposition (LOP) last week which some members were against, claiming their former Presidential Candidate in the February 18, elections Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye won the elections.

But the party spokesperson, Ibrahim Semujju Nganda said there is no division in the party as reports have continued to circulate in different sections of the media.

He was addressing journalists at the party's weekly press briefing at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday.

"Like any other democratic political institution, people will always have divergent views which are brought on board and later come up with a common position and move on. In FDC we have diverse views but we still take decisions and move on," Semujju explained.

He denied all the media reports, saying the party members are still together working to take the party forward.

A senior party official who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity told New Vision at the party headquarters that members are still sharply divided since the decision was reached without a consensus.

"Of course Semujju is trying to clear the image of the party. The truth is some people are no longer coming to the headquarters since the LOP was appointed. Many were against appointing the LOP when our candidate is still in prison," he added.

Last week a group of party members stormed the party headquarters at Najjanankumbi attempting to stop the National Executive Meeting (NEC) from appointing the LOP.
