Kyambogo student held over murder

The incident took place on Sunday at 1.00am at Pan African Hostel in Banda.


Jinja Road Police have launched investigations into circumstances under which a Kyambogo student was stabbed to death a fellow student.

Felix Mutai, a first year student of Kyambogo University allegedly stabbed Sia Zedrick, 24, a second year student.


The incident took place on Sunday at 1.00am at Pan African Hostel in Banda.  

After finishing his last paper, Mutai, a first year student was over joyed about finishing his exams and started making noise as other students were revising books and when the deceased ordered him to stop shouting, he picked a knife from his girlfriend's room who resided in the same hostel and stabbed him.

OC CID Jinja Road Police, Herbert Akankwasa told New Vision in an interview that "Mutai was drunk and acted funny as he made noise at the hostel, as Zedrick, the chairman of the hostel stopped him, he got a knife and stabbed him in the chest and died instantly," Akankwasa said.

Akankwasa said police reached the crime scene and arrested Mutai. "We are charging him with Murder," he added.

The body was taken to Mulago hospital for post-mortem. However, sources at the mortuary said the relatives picked the body on Monday afternoon for burial.

Mutai is currently in held at Jinja Road police and his case reference number is CRB 94/16.
