Court to deliver judgement in Jinja election petition

Justice Lydia Mugambe on Wednesday fixed the date after the conclusion of the hearing of the evidence.

The High Court in Kampala will on the July 13, deliver judgment in an election petition filed by Paul Mwiru.

Mwiru who contested as Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate for the Jinja Municipality East parliament seat in the Feruary 18, 2016 elections and lost to Igeme Nathan Nabeta (NRM), has challenged the election.

Justice Lydia Mugambe on Wednesday fixed the date after the conclusion of the hearing of the evidence. She asked the lawyers to file written submissions.

Mwiru claims that the election was not free and fair adding that it was marred by irregularities.

However, Nabeta has rubbished the claims. He said the election was conducted in a free and fair manner and that he won the elections on merit.

He asked court to dismiss the petition and uphold his election as Member of Parliament representing Jinja Municipality East.
