Kaberamaido kids off to Masindi for National Kids Athletics competition

“The team has been screened, they have all qualified. We have even finished registration,” an upbeat Richard Elyebu, the assistant district education officer told the New Vision by telephone from Masindi Monday.


A team of 25 pupils from Kaberamaido district has arrived in Masindi for the National Kids Athletics competition that starts on Wednesday this week.

"The team has been screened, they have all qualified. We have even finished registration," an upbeat Richard Elyebu, the assistant district education officer told the New Vision by telephone from Masindi Monday.

"Our team comprises of 13 girls and 12 boys and we are presenting in two categories; the under 12 and the under 14," Elyebu said.

James Patrick Enumu, the assistant general secretary national primary schools sports and games association, explained that the children, representing all districts and municipalities, compete in 10 disciplines including sprinting, hurdles, relays, cross country, throws (stick throws and javelin), ring throws, discus, shot put and jumps (long, triple and multiple jumps).

The Kaberamaido children are accompanied by a technical team including Ebiu Daniel, Sarah Akirimai and Denis Obwangoto.
