StarTimes Falcons’ Stephen Omony continues to produce man-of the-match performances but his side continues to lose games in the National Basketball League that started ten days ago.
Omony scored a game high 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Falcons lost to Ndejje University 67-57 at the YMCA, Sunday night, but Omony believes they will get over their slow start.
“We don’t like the results but we are not worried; we are doing everything possible to get back to winning ways,” Omony said after the Sunday game.
Douglas Uwizera added 10 points for the Falcons who are currently missing the services of Kenyan forward Ariel Okal.
The Ndejje University Angels were led by Sedar Segamba (12pts) with Dickson Asiko (10pts) and Derrick Katumba (10pts & 10 rebounds) completing the job against the five-time former champions.
Champions Oilers registered the biggest win of the day, beating newly promoted UPDF Tomahawks 87-47 in one of the games played in the scorching sun.
Kabange, Jimmy Enabu, Landry Ndikumana and Jonah Otim scored at will for the champions in the one-sided game that left UPDF’s coach Mande Baker with only a few positives to talk about.
“The good thing we have won all our rebounds from the free throws so we shall build on that; you can see I have a thin squad yet we were playing against the defending champions,” Mande remarked after the game.
UCU Canons and the Lady Canons were also victorious over the KIU Titans and the KIU Rangers on the day, in the battle of University sides.
The Canons had Stephen Wundi (20pts), Jonathan Egau (13pts), Athieu Madol (12pts) and Fadhil Chuma (11pts+12 rebounds) all in double figures for the Canons who took advantage of KIU’s slow start to open an over 20 point lead.
Sudi Ulanga (20pts), Omanye Nasheke (17pts) and Francis Sokoroza (10pts) top scored for the Titans whose late rally was cut short by time.
Lady champions UCU Lady Canons registered their second win of the season with Rita Imanishimwe, Judith Nansobya, Sarah Ageno and Vilma Achieng registering double figures with 22, 19, 13 and 11 points respectively.
Aurore Irakoze, Moreen Atulinda and Florence Nanyonga with 13, 10 and 9 points were the Rangers’ top scorers for the student side that lost their third consecutive game of the NBL this year.
Martha Soigi (18pts+8 rebounds) was also a handful for the Magic Stormers as KCCA Leopards won their second game of the season.
