How to choose the right spetic tank

May 13, 2016

"A 50,000 liter concrete tank takes up to 30 years to fill"

Martin Male, a business man and resident of Kawanda in Wakiso district, woke up to a foul smell in his house. At first, he did not take it seriously, because he normally left his home early and returned late.

"One weekend, I asked a local builder to search for the source of the smell in the house. He discovered that the septic tank was full and waste water had spilled into the compound," he says.

Paul Bogere, a plumber with 10 years' experience, says a septic system can be an efficient, inexpensive and convenient method for treating and disposing of household waste water produced in the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry.

He says septic systems are used if sewage treatment plants are not accessible. The septic system consists of three main parts; the septic tank, drain field and soil beneath the drain field. Fred Lukoda, who is in the construction business, says a septic tank is an important facility, but that some people do not give it enough attention during planning.
