Parliament sells iPads to MPs at sh500,000

May 07, 2016

The ipads were bought at sh2.5m, but some legislators think it is unfair to make them pay sh500,000 for them

WITH one week left to the swearing-in of the 10th Parliament, the Parliamentary Commission is set to sell iPads to the legislators at a cost of sh500,000 in order to retain them.

The Parliament director of communication and public affairs, Chris Obore, in an interview with NewVision on Thursday, said: "Parliament is going to deduct sh500,000 from the salaries of May, 2016 of each of the 386 MPs, including 11 ex officios of the 9th Parliament, because this is the last pay of the 9th Parliament, to pave way for the MPs to own the iPads, irrespective of whether they have lost them."
