Police in Tororo have arrested a 25 year old man for allegedly strangling his 5-year-old step son over broken eggs.

Owori Okoth a resident of Misasa B zone in Nabuyoga Sub County beat and later strangled Julius Okoth the son to Topista Nyatono.

Nyatono a mother of 9 children abandoned her husband Obbo Obanda, 45, a resident of Bolongo zone in Nagongera Sub County in December 2015 and married Owori.

According to neighbours, Owori sent the deceased to a nearby shop to buy eggs, a match box and cigarettes but he accidently broke them along the way.

Owori was angered when Okoth explained to him that the eggs had gotten broken and he proceeded to beat him until he died.

After the incident, Owori attempted to flee but was arrested and taken by residents to Nabuyoga Police Post before he was transferred to Tororo Central Police Station where he is currently being held.

The postmortem report indicated that the deceased died of strangulation.

The Bukedi regional Police spokesperson Sowali Kamulya confirmed the incident saying Owori will be charged with murder contrary to section 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act.

Kamulya revealed that Nyatono was once arrested and detained at Nagongera Police Post after Obanda reported her to police for family neglect. This was after she abandoned their children to marry Owori.

He added that Nyatono was later released when she accepted to return to Obanda's home but surprisingly she disappeared just two days later and went back to Owori's home with the deceased.
