Former FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa's recent financial intervention towards Express FC has started bearing fruits after they beat Bright Stars 2-1 at Wankulukuku stadium on Saturday to move within touching distance of the Azam Uganda Premier League lead.

The Red Eagles continued to pile pressure on leaders KCCA FC, moving to second in the league on 48 points ironically ousting Mulindwa's Vipers to move four points behind the Lugogo side.

Vipers who played to goalless draw with KCCA FC on Friday are on 46 points and with two games in hand.

Ibrahim Kayiwa and Tony Odur each grabbed a goal for Express while Anthony Bongole was on target for Matugga side.

Elsewhere, the introduction of midfielder Ambrose Kirya early in first half helped SC Villa beat home side BUL FC 2-0 at Kakindu Stadium.

Kirya came in for left back Yeseri Waibi after half an hour and became the creative spark SC Villa was craving. He provided the cross for David Kamanzi to score Villa's first goal 4 minutes later.

The home side could have drawn level from the penalty spot when Shaka Ssozi was brought down in the box on 56 minutes but Titus Okello's effort was saved by Villa's goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato.

Villa then added the second through Umaru Kasumba with a deflected shot when he caught BUL FC's defense napping with 5 minutes left on the clock.

At Namboole, Ivan Kiweewa and Alex Kitata scored for a resurgent Saints as they defeated JMC Hippos 2-1. Ajab Abdurrahman scored a consolation for the Jinja side.
