Henry Wanyama never studied cookery. He never envisaged himself cooking for a living either. In fact, he always wanted to be a TV newscaster like the late Bbale Francis whom he grew up watching on UBC TV.

For this reason, he applied to study mass communication at university. But he was instead admitted for a bachelor's degree in education at Makerere University. That meant that he could not go ahead and become that star newscaster he always dreamt of.

Frustrated that his dream had been thwarted because he was admitted to the wrong course, Wanyama fell back to a childhood passion after university - cooking. He wanted to own his own restaurant.

To raise capital as a graduate, he roasted and sold roadside chicken. He also fried and peddled mandazi and chapatti. Today, even though he is still miles from his desired goals, Wanyama, a self-taught chef who proudly hosts a cook show on one of the local TV station in Uganda, is a restaurateur and owns also owns Kampala's fist fully fledged cooking school.
