Katikkiro Mayiga to visit UK in May

The main purpose for Katikkiro’s visit is to update Ugandans on the progress of the restoration of Kasubi Royal tombs-a world heritage site and the development of Kabaka’s man-made lake, one of the longest surviving man-made lakes in Africa.

The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga is set to make a UK tour in May this year in which he will visit places outside London for the first time in his outreach programme.

The Katikkiro who is travelling with a princess royal and a delegation of Buganda government officials will be visiting Scotland area headed by Kabaka's deputy representatives, Omukungu Rebecca Lubega-Bukulu and Manchester area headed by Omukungu Enock Mayanja Kiyaga.

The main purpose for Katikkiro's visit is to update Ugandans on the progress of the restoration of Kasubi Royal tombs-a world heritage site and the development of Kabaka's man-made lake, one of the longest surviving man-made lakes in Africa.

The Katikkiro will also update Ugandans on the implementation of the five-year Buganda Kingdom development plan and give an overview on the social-economic development of Buganda and Uganda.

During the visit, Ugandans in the UK will also have an opportunity to learn about the Land Protection through Modern Electronic Systems to be presented by Buganda Land Board Chief Kyewalabye Male and the role of Local government authorities in Buganda's new strategic direction by David Ssekyeru. Other topics to be discussed include; the importance of Buganda Heritage Trail, harnessing Buganda's Tourism Potential  and "Ettofaali" Drive by Omukungu John Fred Kiyimba Freeman who are all part of the Katikkiro delegation.

In Scotland, the Katikkiro is scheduled to visit the transport museum according to Ms. Bukulu while in Manchester, Mayiga and his delegation will visit the Science and Industry museum, pay a courtesy call to the Mayor and visit the famous two stadia for Manchester United and Manchester City football clubs. He is also scheduled to visit a sausage project run by the Ugandan women group in Manchester headed by Rehema Nnabukeera Kawooya.

According to Kiyaga this visit is much anticipated as it will help a lot to rejuvenate and inspire all Ugandans in the diaspora by giving them a sense of belonging, opportunity to promote their culture especially among the Ugandan children born and raised abroad and re-assurance that the Kingdom belongs to and welcomes all. His reign has united more Ugandans in the diaspora than ever before.

From Manchester, the Katikkiro and his delegation will continue his Europe tour to Copenhagen-Denmark and Netherlands before returning to Kampala.
