MPs threaten not to pass the budget over tax exemption

The MPs amended the Bill to exempt their allowances from being taxed. The amendment has sparked public protests.

Members of Parliament have threatened not to approve the 2016/17 financial year budget if President Yoweri Museveni does not assent to the Income Tax Ammendment Bill.

Two MPs addressed a press conference on Tuesday. They said they were conveying the views of their colleagues on the just amended Income Tax law Bill, which awaits assent by the President.

The MPs amended the Bill to exempt their allowances from being taxed. The amendment has sparked public protests.
