Police in Lyantonde district are investigating circumstances under which a 37-year-old Rwandan national died in a lodge.

The deceased has been identified as William Rwakibibi, a resident of Kicukiro village and an employee of TOPSEC Investments Ltd, one of the security companies in Kigali, Rwanda.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at Eastland Lodge and Bar at around 6am.

However, it took about three hours for the lodge employees to notice Rwakibibi had died.

Detectives handling the case found a bottle containing some toxic chemicals and a small box labeled ‘Duo Deep 55% E.C.'

The chemical is meant to spray or deep animals to kill pests and parasites but too harmful for human consumption.

Ruth Nakawala, the District Criminal Investigations Officer (CID) confirmed the incident. She said that they suspect Rwakibibi took the deadly chemical to end his life.

According to Arinda Ariho, the Proprietor of Eastland Lodge and bar, Rwakibibi checked in on Tuesday at around 4pm and was to spend a night according to his booking.

Like other guests, she added, he took time drinking in the bar and watching Television before he retired for the night. Only to realise on Wednesday morning that he had died.

"The employees went to his room and knocked but no one responded. They instead went for a spare key and to their shock, Rwakibibi had died." She explained.
