Police said Besigye had been issued with criminal summons on charges of disobeying lawful orders

The Forum for Democratic Change former Presidential flag bearer, Col Dr. Kiiza Besigye has said that he is not aware of any criminal summons issued to to him as alleged by Police.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga told journalists on Monday that Besigye had been issued with criminal summons on charges of disobeying lawful orders but had declined to append his signature, premise that he (Besigye) was yet to consult his lawyers.

Enanga said the summons were issued on April 8.

Speaking to New Vision at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi yesterday, Besigye said he has not seen nor receive any summons from any one.

"I have never turned down any court summons. If at all they are there and I get them I will go to court, but I haven't received any summons. I have not seen them yet," he noted.

Besigye stressed that every time he is called in court he goes there as a law a bidding citizen.

The case stems from the incident of April 5, when Besigye moved in a procession from his home in Kasangati as he headed to the party headquarters in the city suburb of Najjanankumbi.

However, Besigye was blocked by police at Mulago roundabout after he declined to use the Yusuf Lule road as suggested by the superintendent of police Daniel Bamuzibire, and instead insisted on using Wandegeya road.

Enanga said if he refuses to sign, they will have no option but to take the summons to court which will have to decide on the next step.
