Ethiopia and Qatar have confirmed participation in this year's Afrika Mashariki Fest half marathon.

"I was recently in Ethiopia and the two nations confirmed participation," stated the event's chief executive Ronex Kisembo.

The second edition of the race, due on May 29, was launched at the Kampala Sheraton on Tuesday.

Ethiopia together with Kenya are the top long distance running nations. Qatar has in recent years also made strides following its policy of signing top Ethiopian and Kenyan runners.

Addressing a press conference at the Seven Hills Restaurant, Kisembo said numerous prizes are there to be won.

The run, with its flag-off and finish at the national ceremonial grounds, Kololo, last year attracted 2000 participants from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

"Addressing youth unemployment through sports," is the theme for the May 29 event. Flag-off and finish will again be at the national ceremonial ground, Kololo.

The same function was used to launch the A.M.F Awards.
