Ugandan boxer kicked off plane to Cameroon

UBF secretary Simon Barigo blamed the federation president Kenneth Gimugu for the mix up.

Uganda never seems to run shot of boxing drama when it comes to international engagements.

During the All Africa games in Congo Brazaville last August, Ugandan boxer Nashir Bashir was thrown out for growing a beard.

Before that, during the World Championships in Doha, Qatar, flyweight Fazil Juma failed to make weight.

Just before the weigh-in of the Africa Olympic Games qualifier in Younde, Cameroon, the national boxing team-the Bombers is still making dramatic events.

This time around welterweight Muzamil Katende was refused to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Cameroon at Entebbe International Airport Monday morning.

Apparently Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) officials had a mix up in communication with the Ugandan contingent of seven boxers.

Katende's name was not included in the final list of boxers accredited for the visa procedures. The bombers are supposed to receive visas on arrival in Yaounde.

UBF secretary Simon Barigo blamed the federation president Kenneth Gimugu for the mix up.

"I am not aware of all what is going on because the president has taken charge of all international correspondences," he complained bitterly.

By Tuesday, UBF officials were still battling with the organizers for Katende to be included on the team list.

Ugandan head of delegation and UBF vice president administration Lt. Col. Godfrey Muwanzi promised to foot the cost of the change of flight in order to see that the boxer goes to Cameroon.

Other boxers in the Bombers squad are Ronald Serugo (flyweight), Atanus Mugerwa (bantam), Suleiman Segawa (lightweight), Kenneth Katende (light heavyweight) and Mike Sekabembe (super heavyweight).
