Inmates of Kitgum Prisons have appealed to corporate companies to support their sports activities.

Mweso, a traditional game, is one of the activities the prisoners are involved in.

The inmates said the popularity of the game has reached a level that requires corporate sponsorship as teams prepare for the Independence Cup.

Moses Komakech, the inmate's sports committee chief, said mweso and other disciplines do not only provide entertainment but contribute to the prisoners' rehabilitation.

"Life behind bars has never been easy but sports activities like mweso relieve us from the stress we go through as we serve our sentences," Komakech who is serving a two year sentence for inciting violence stated.

The officer in charge of Kitgum Prisons Patrick Epilla told New Vision: "Sports promotes good health and is ideal for team building among inmates."

Other activities the inmates are engaged in include volley ball, football and netball.
