“Andrew was not operated on because his pressure was high and doctors‎ had other engagements."

WBS journalist Andrew Lwanga's delicate spinal cord operation that was slated for Wednesday this week has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 23.

The now crippled Lwanga was battered by the Old Kampala District Police Commander, Joram Mwesigye on January 12 last year while on duty.

He was covering a demonstration by a group of unemployed youth on Namirembe Road near Florida Bar and Guest House in Kampala.

Lwanga was on Tuesday this week admitted at Kampala Hospital ahead of the surgery the following day.

A team of 14 health experts were supposed to undertake a surgery on him; however because of his high blood pressure it was not possible.

"Andrew was not operated on because his pressure was high and doctors‎ had other engagements. The appointment was re-fixed to 23rd February," said Benkerry Mawejje, a family friend.

‘I am scared'

Speaking to New Vision on Tuesday while lying on his admission bed, Lwanga confirmed that he was scared but he had nothing to do because he could not wait to get back on his feet.

"I thank the president and everyone who has contributed to my treatment but I am scared of the operation, No one has prepared me for it. I might not even come back," he said, fearing that he might die.

President Yoweri Museveni contributed sh20m towards the injured scribe's surgery.

Right now Lwanga is back at his parent's home in Muyenga, Kampala.
