Former captain of the Uganda Women's volleyball team Prosy Alobo has advised the current team to work hard  because "it's not easy out there". The competitions start on Friday.

Alobo was dropped from the team that arrived for 2016 Rio Olympic qualifiers in Yaoundé, Cameroon last evening but the veteran player predicts that Uganda will put up a better performance if the women stay focused.

"Everyone on the team is good and training has been the best ever for them. The girls only have to fight their hearts out for the best," Alobo who has captained the women's team at continental and regional competitions before said.

Uganda will have to know their opponents after the technical meeting due on Thursday morning when the countries are grouped and eventually the fixtures released.

Uganda will face either the hosts Cameroon, Algeria, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia or Zimbabwe starting on February 12.

Uganda Volleyball Federation President Sadik Nasiwu urged the girls to do their best to sell Ugandan volleyball continentally.

"It is the first time we (Uganda) have gone for a competition as far as Cameroon. We should ensure our best and sell our game at the continent level," Nasiwu said.
