Mukono South Member of Parliament Rev Peter Bakaluba Mukasa has asked police for protection during campaigns and at his home following the gun attack on his rival Munyanja Senyonga.

Muyanja and the incumbent Bakaluba are locked in a battle for the Mukono South seat.

Bakaluba said that he petitioned the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the matter because the attack on his competitor could have been stage managed and he may instead be attacked after failing to succeed in tarnishing his image as the incumbent legislator.

"This is scary so we are calling upon the Inspector of General of Police to intervene. We've even requested that the matter be taken out of Mukono so that we can get justice" Bakaluba said.

Bakaluba who lost in the NRM party primaries to Senyonga is now contesting as an independent but claims his competitors are framing him for involvement in the alleged attack to spoil his votes.

It is alleged that gunmen who were using a boda boda waylaid the ex-mayor as he was coming from his campaigns in Katosi and shot at him with the intention of killing him.

Muyanja who travelling in his Prado number UAK 612F survived narrowly because he had changed his sitting position in the car.
