The new Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) secretary general Ramadhan Mugalu has been sworn in by Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Mubajje.

The ceremony was witnessed on Thursday by all the 58 district Kadhis, members of UMSC management and the UMSC staff.

In the statement issued by UMSC spokesperson, Haji Nsereko Mutumba, Mubajje congratulated Mugalu and urged him to serve Muslims well.

He hailed the outgoing secretary general Eng. Siraj Kavuma for dedicating seven years to serving the Muslim community in Uganda and  wished him Allah's guidance as he prepares to serve Islam in other capacities.

Mubajje urged the district kadhis to emulate UMSC headquarters by following the UMSC constitution in all administrative issues in their respective districts.

He said at the UMSC headquarters, the administration has registered a lot of progress because of its commitment to constitutionalism, unity and development.

The Mufti informed the Kadhis about the impending unity Juma scheduled for February 12 at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala and urged them to pass on the news to their respective congregations.

Sheikh Kavuma thanked the UMSC administration, the Mufti in particular and Ugandan Muslims in general for supporting him during his tenure in office.

He said that he will remain committed to UMSC and promised to cooperate with the new secretary general for the good of the Ummah.

He, however, urged Mugalu to be loyal to the Mufti, the entire UMSC establishment and to be open to constructive criticism.

On his part, Mugalu accepted the responsibility of serving Muslims in the capacity of secretary general and pledged to deliver with Allah's guidance.

The Amir Daula Sheikh Sulaiman Kakeeto and the acting Amir Ummah sheikh Yahaya Mwanje attended the ceremony and assured the Mufti that with the existing Muslim unity, it is incumbent upon them to work hand in hand with the new secretary general.
