ICT graduands to benefit from India scholarships

The Indian High Commissioner to Uganda, Ramesh Chandra has said that information technology students will this year benefit from different scholarships.

Chandra said this is intended to prepare business minded students to appreciate and tap into the potential that comes with ICT.

He called on all youths to prioritize hands-on education to help bridge the unemployment gap.

"I call on all stakeholders to strive towards helping the youths position themselves in business prosperity through offering mentorship programmes to the youths," said Chandra.

The students will be selected annually by a panel of judges.

Varghese Mundamattam, chairman at Aptech Computer Education, youths today should seek employable skills that are relevant to today's society.

Mundamattam said "authorities must ensure that youth are guided appropriately in innovative applications and business models in specific areas of interests. The government, NGOs and corporate bodies and financing institutions must device and offer start-up financing for innovations and promotions of business models that can employ many skills."

His statement comes at a time employers in the country devised means of bridging the gap with the unemployed Ugandans through counseling them at Lugogo Rugby grounds.
