Uganda Beach Soccer Association (UBSA) have postponed kickoff of the second round of their national league that was due to kick off on Sunday to January 31, 2016.

UBSA chairman Deo Mutabazi said at a press conference  that water levels at Lake Victoria is the reason for the delay as it has narrowed the beaches and thus the playing surface at Lido beach.

Flanked by his chief executive officer Denis Sembuya at the press conference, Mutabazi said this while receiving sh100m Pepsi Cola sponsorship for the second round of the league from Pepsi brand manager Berna Kiiza at the association headquarters at Athina Club in Kololo.

"It is not the recent tragedy at the beaches in Entebbe that has forced us to postpone the games but the raised water levels. It is unfortunate but clubs also have more time now to prepare themselves fully. The sponsors also have the best of entertainment to offer," Mutabazi said.

Pepsi also unveiled branded jerseys for all participating clubs as part of the sponsorship.

Earlier, Mutabazi feared that deaths at the beaches would affect their fan base at the games as authorities effectively moved to block beach goers from swimming in the lake until the beach owners met some safety requirements.

On Boxing Day, 13 people were found dead on beaches on the shores of Lake Victoria in Entebbe forcing the local authorities to order closure of the beaches for revealers.

Today, Lido, Spena, Aero and Sports beaches are temporarily fenced off from the waters and marine soldiers and divers permanently deployed beaches in Entebbe.

Lido beach manager Jeff Muwanguzi that time consoled that, "currently are not operating to our full capacity but we have met all the conditions that meeting of the stakeholders. We are trying to find a middle ground and I'm sure by next time we shall be fully functioning".
