Most dangerous accidents that occurred last year, were as a result of tyre bursts which resulted into the cars overturning

Most Police annual reports have indicated that human error contributes to the major causes of road accidents in the country.

However, the director traffic and road safety, Dr. Stephen Kasiima has observed that tyre bursts is now becoming the major cause of accidents.

Kasiima said most motorists do not pay keen attention to their tyres before driving and most of them are also not keen on expiry dates.

"Most dangerous accidents that occurred last year, were as a result of tyre bursts which resulted into the cars overturning," said Kasiima.

He was addressing journalists on the current status of road traffic related accident causes in the country leading to deaths.

The traffic boss advised all motorists to buy authentic tyres from authorized tyre dealers to avoid the possibility of purchasing expired tyres.

Kasiima's statement comes before Police's official release of the 2015 General Crime and traffic report slated for February.

Moses Enyimu, traffic logistics officer observed that there is need to regulate tyre distributors in the country to avoid buying substandard ones. Enyimu advised motorists to check out for expiry dates of tyres before purchasing.
