THE High Court has summoned a police officer in connection with the death of 22-year-old businessman, who was detained in Nabisaalu Police Post in Kampala.

The High Court, Civil division registrar Festo Nsenga issued the directive following a successful application filed by the human rights lawyer, Ladislus Rwakafuuzi.

Kiggundu, a businessman dealing in shoes was suspected to be in the notorious ‘Kifeesi gang', known for robbing people in Kampala.

Sgt. Katusabe Bwize and the Attorney General (AG), Fredrick Ruhindi were dragged to court on Tuesday by Abdalaziz Ssali, the father of the deceased.

Nsenga summoned the duo to file their defence before the hearing date is fixed.

"You are hereby required to file a defence within 15 days from the date of service of the summons on you".

Nsenga further warned that should the duo fail to file their defence, Ssali may proceed with the suit and judgment will be made in their absence.

Ssali is seeking a declaration that the intentional taking a way of life of his son (Kigundu) by the police was a violation of his guarantees to life as stipulated in Article 22 (1) of the Constitution.

He also seeks orders of redress in damages.
