National Council of Sports Chairman John Bosco Onyik has promised to revive all sports disciplines in Lira district.

Addressing the gathering that turned up for the 2015-16  Mr. Uganda Bodybuilding Championship on New Year's Day, Onyik said him and Commissioner for Sports Omara Apita are going to work hand in hand to ensure all the major sports are played in the district.

And the first sport to immediately benefit will be bodybuilding which has attracted a lot of enthusiasm from the locals.  NCS promised to equip the Lira gym which is in a poor state with equipment worth sh7m by March.

"We want to revive the Bodybuilding Association of Lira and we are going to liaise with the Uganda Body Building and Fitness Association to ensure this happens. We are ready to support them in any form be it financial or in equipment. I must apologise that I didn't know that we had bodybuilders in Lira, I'm surprised that we have been able to raise three that have been able to compete at national level and we shall build on that going forward,"

Lira was represented by Richard Okane, Patrick Otim and Phillip Ojara who were stepping on stage for the first time.

"Next, I want Lira to host the motocross championship during the Easter season in April, so we should immediately revive the Lira Motocross Association as well; if the problem is funding we shall do our best to get it,"

"We are in the process of decentralizing all sports, those games that have not been played here must be introduced, because we believe the athletes are here. The only challenge that will remain will be identifying, nurturing and sponsoring them, we shall do our best as NCS and government to ensure we help these athletes," Onyik stated.
