SEVERAL events have been lined up as Uganda joins the rest of the world to commemorate the 2015 Month of the Woman Entrepreneur (MOWE).

While launching the activities yesterday at the Uganda Women Entreprenuers Association Limited (UWEAL), the organisation’s chairperson, Dr. Gudula Basaza revealed that the theme of the month is “Promoting the Spirit of Excellence among Women owned enterprises.”

“MOWE 2015 will include a number of exciting activities such as business clinics, mentorship walks, exhibitions, advocacy workshops, social media engagements, business forums, the annual women business leaders’ conference and an entrepreneurship awards dinner,” she said.

Gudula sounded the importance of empowering women entrepreneurs.

“Increasing investment in women empowerment and leadership can play a significant role in improving the quality of life of Ugandans as more jobs are created, community development programmes initiated, household incomes increased and private sector expanded,” she said.

Christine Kyeyune Kawooya, the Chief Executive Officer of UWEAL revealed that the business leaders’ conference will be used to leverage individual and corporate strengths to make women entrepreneurs.

MOWE is an annual programme implemented in partnership with Women Entrepreneurs Association and other Private Sector actors.

In 2011, the International Labor Organisation (ILO) selected UWEAL to coordinate MOWE activities in Uganda.
