A number of prominent Express fans are back in the fold following the team’s unprecedented performance in the Azam Uganda Super League.

The Red Eagles, lying third on the league table on 17 points behind leaders KCCA (21) and Vipers (20), are the only other unbeaten side besides KCCA in the 16-team competition. After nine outings, the Wankulukuku side have won four and drawing the other five.

“We are doing all we can to see that we get back to where we belong,” executive committee chairman Francis Ntalazi said. “A number of our prominent fans are back in the fold after realizing that we are on the right track,” he added, referring to some kingpin fans who had abandoned the club, to the extent that some had even found other suitors.

Jonh Kitenda, Ronald Saka, Kavuma Kabenge, Haruna Tamale, Lawrence Kato are some of those Ntalazi said are already contributing to the club coffers.

He said former FUFA boss Lawrence Mulindwa, Sophie Namutebi (formerly known as Maama Phina) and Pastor Kakande have also showed willingness to extend a hand to the former league champions.

“We have contacted all of them and they are very positive. They have the heart for the club of their childhood,” Ntalazi explained ahead of the Corporate Club members’ meeting on Friday at Jevine Hotel in Rubaga. Each member is required to pay sh50,000.

Express aka Mukwano gw’Abangi (the peoples’ darling) has in the past couple of seasons put up a lacklustre performance. They finished a miserable eighth in the league last season and was bundled out of the Uganda Cup in the first round.

During that period, the situation was not helped by leadership wrangles both in the club and the local soccer federation.

However, FUFA president Moses Magogo has also intimated that he would do all in his powers to see that Express regains its glory so that the power of VEK (Villa-Express-KCCA) is felt in Ugandan football once again.
